about melanie earle
I have been artmaking since I was thirteen years old, taking art classes and attending summer art courses at the Banff School for the Arts. After finishing high school, I began studies in Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba and then decided to move to Toronto after being accepted to The Ontario College of Art. While mostly painting and making sculpture, my work was inspired by dream imagery, mythology/storytelling, symbolism and the natural world. After graduating from OCAD in 1985, I helped found and became a member of an artists’ collective called “Republic”. I was involved in this group for around four years, showing and organizing shows in Toronto. I have also worked as a graphic artist and a colourist in an animation company. For over twenty years I have had my own studio-run business – Sourceworks , creating unique ceramic molds for my ceramic sculpture, vessels and jewelry. As well I founded an artists group in 2008, called The Grey Highlands Artists Collective, GHAC. I find these different activities all inform each other in the creative process.
